DIY Shaving Cream – It’s Just Not The Same!

A while ago I stumbled across a very basic DIY shaving cream. Immediately I rushed out to buy everything I would need – shampoo, conditioner, baby oil, lotion and a pump bottle. Full of excitement I told Tom, “I’m never going to over pay for shaving cream again!” As I mixed together the shampoo (1 cup), conditioner (1 cup), baby oil (1/3 cup) and lotion (1/3 cup) I was convinced that this would be a success.

When it came time to use this DIY shaving cream I was immediately disappointed. The tutorial had mentioned that it would not be as thick as regular shaving cream and I was prepared for that, however, I found this DIY shaving cream to be really messy. Determined to make this a success I even played around with the quantities. It didn’t work.  To give this DIY a fair chance I used it multiple times. Each time I ended up with terrible razor burn, something I rarely experience. Even Tom noticed the razor burn and asked if I was okay.

I used over half of what I made before deciding to throw it out. Guess what was on sale the next time I went to the grocery store! Shaving cream! I’ll take that as a victory!

Not all DIY projects will be successful and I am happy to share my misadventures and failures as they occur. Remember, just because this DIY was not a success for me does not mean it is in anyway a bad idea. You may try it and absolutely love it.
