DIY: Shine Boost for Hair

The last time I had my hair trimmed I was given this tip for getting a healthy shine to my hair, and I have finally gotten around to trying it. If your hair could use a little extra shine, give this a try. I’m glad I did!

Baking soda and shampoo are all you need for a little extra, healthy and natural looking shine!

Baking soda and shampoo are all you need for a little extra, healthy and natural looking shine!

Prior to getting in the shower combine your regular amount of shampoo with a dash of baking soda in a bowl and give it a quick mix.

In the shower use the baking soda and shampoo mixture the same way you would use your shampoo on any given day. I was told to repeat this no more than once a week.

On top of giving your hair a healthy shine the baking soda is also supposed to help remove the build up of excess hair product!

As I said, I am happy with the results but I would love to hear from other people who have tried it – what do you think? Was anyone unhappy with the results?

To all my fellow Canadians, I hope you have a fantastic long weekend. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this Canada Day weekend brings some nicer weather.

Thank you for reading and I hope you’ll check back. I do not anticipate the next post will be until next Wednesday.

My Lotion Collection + 1 Month Blogging!

P1000980I noticed this post on a couple of blogs and vlogs and since I absolutely love lotions, I decided to do it as well! Let’s get right to it – my lotion collection!

  • OPI AVOJUICE Winter Huckleberry (30mL)
  • OPI AVOJUICE Cran & Berry (30mL)
  • OPI AVOJUICE Mango (30mL)
  • OPI AVOJUICE Jasmine (30mL)

I absolutely love these lotions. They are great for tossing in your purse, make up bag or car. And they smell delicious. Honestly, the mango smells good enough to eat. Has anyone ever had a lotion that smelled so delicious they actually tasted it?

Speaking of smelling delicious:

  • LaSenza Body Kiss – Kiss Me, Cupcake Indulgent Swirl Cream (100mL)
  • Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer (200mL)
  • Olay Quench Plus Touch of Sun Body Lotion + Gradual Sunless Tanner (200mL)

Since I have tried Australian Gold SPF 30 + bronzer I haven’t been using these as often. However, they do add a subtle glow to your skin and they are quite moisturizing.

  • Hempz Original Herbal Body Moisturizer (2.25fl Oz)
  • Avon Foot Works All Day Deodorant Foot Cream (100mL)

Even if you don’t think your feet stink (they do), I find peppermint scented products to be very refreshing. This was one of my favorite products while in the Caribbean last winter.

  • Bath & Body Works Sweet on Paris (59mL)
  • Bath & Body Works White Citrus (3flOz)
  • Bath & Body Works White Citrus (8oz)
  • Bath & Body Works White Citrus (8oz)
  • Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena (8flOz)
  • Bath & Body Works Black Amethyst (8oz)

Who doesn’t love Bath & Body Works? What is your favorite Bath & Body Works product? It may look like mine is White Citrus but I am actually torn between the Coconut Lime Verbena and Black Amethyst!

I’d love to hear from you. If you’ve done this post in the past or choose to do it in the future be sure to leave a link. Do you have any suggestions for what lotion(s) I should try next? What’s your favorite lotion?

As always, thank you for reading! The blog has been up for one month now and I wish I could thank all of you individually for visiting, ‘liking’, commenting and providing feedback via e-mail and comments! Let’s see what this next month brings!

Goodbye White Bikini, Hello Tie Dye Bikini!

Recently while I was lying in bed feeling sick and watching Modern Family I decided I wanted to try tie-dying with Sharpies. I was going to get up and find an old white t-shirt when I remembered that last year’s white bikini wasn’t looking as bright and white as it was when I bought it. I had it washed on our cruise over the holidays and when it came back it was slightly discolored. I made a couple of attempts to brighten it with little success. Even if this failed, I didn’t feel like I was ruining the bikini.

Because I was going this in bed I took the top of a plastic storage container to use as a ‘work space’ and it worked great!

Items used: white bikini, rubbing alcohol, small dish, plastic bags (2), plastic pipette, colorful sharpies, plastic storage bin lid

Posting Schedule, Thank You & Meet Murray

Hey everyone – happy first day of summer to you all!

You may have noticed I do not have a set schedule for blog posts. I know there are some people who only post on certain days whether it is on their blog or YouTube channel but unless I get a lot of negative feedback about not having a schedule for blog posts I would like to avoid this for now. If anyone has any thoughts please leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

With that out of the way I would like to thank everyone who has been reading and following the blog – this morning when I signed on I was informed that I have gotten 50 likes! I hope you will keep checking back. The list of future blog posts grows daily and I am happy to take requests and suggestions! So again, thank you!

This morning over breakfast I was trying to decide on today’s blog post, that’s when Murray jumped up on the couch beside me and rested her head on my shoulder. Knowing that Murray will be a source of inspiration for many future blog posts I decided to do a “Meet Murray” post.

Meet Murray!

The Perfect “Summer Nights” Sock (Hold in the Moisture)

Has anyone picked up on the title of the post? What was I watching while I cut the toes off my socks? If you guessed Grease, you’re right! If you’re not in the mood to watch the entire movie, at least watch “Summer Nights” on YouTube. Would you believe me if I said singing along helps?

Applying lotion to my heels is one of the last things I do each night before heading to bed.Living in Atlantic Canada most of the year I am happy to follow this application with a pair of socks (though in my adult life I can probably count the number of times on one hand that I have gone to bed with socks and woken up still wearing them). However, from late spring/early summer to early fall I can’t stand the thought of wearing socks to bed.  Fortunately, I found this link while browsing Pinterest. Isn’t Pinterest fantastic? Anyway, immediately after finding this I went in search of socks and scissors!

This is as simple as it looks – cut the toes off of a pair of cotton socks. After applying lotion to your heels before bed slip these socks on to hold in the lotion.

Am I the only one who thinks these are absolutely adorable?

Finding images to use on your blog can help or hamper your blogging goals

A great reminder that all bloggers should take the time to read.

Writings of a Mrs

Hi everyone.

I just want to take a moment to share some very helpful information that I came across recently.

I had an issue with using a copyrighted image with out proper permission.  I by no means did this intentionally as I am sure many others have done but it was brought to my attention when the photographer approached me.

The issue was resolved simply but I felt terribly about it afterwards especially considering how important I feel it is to respect others work.

DIY Shaving Cream – It’s Just Not The Same!

A while ago I stumbled across a very basic DIY shaving cream. Immediately I rushed out to buy everything I would need – shampoo, conditioner, baby oil, lotion and a pump bottle. Full of excitement I told Tom, “I’m never going to over pay for shaving cream again!” As I mixed together the shampoo (1 cup), conditioner (1 cup), baby oil (1/3 cup) and lotion (1/3 cup) I was convinced that this would be a success.

DIY Shaving Cream (2)

When it came time to use this DIY shaving cream I was immediately disappointed. The tutorial had mentioned that it would not be as thick as regular shaving cream and I was prepared for that, however, I found this DIY shaving cream to be really messy. Determined to make this a success I even played around with the quantities. It didn’t work.  To give this DIY a fair chance I used it multiple times. Each time I ended up with terrible razor burn, something I rarely experience. Even Tom noticed the razor burn and asked if I was okay.

I used over half of what I made before deciding to throw it out. Guess what was on sale the next time I went to the grocery store! Shaving cream! I’ll take that as a victory!

Not all DIY projects will be successful and I am happy to share my misadventures and failures as they occur. Remember, just because this DIY was not a success for me does not mean it is in anyway a bad idea. You may try it and absolutely love it.

If anyone has a DIY project misadventure or failure that they would like to share I would love to hear about it. As well, if you have another DIY shaving cream that you think I should try please let me know!

Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll check back again soon!
